10 Ways To Stay Motivated About Your Fitness Journey

Staying motivated while exercising can be overwhelming at times. You decide that "today, I will start exercising" or "today, I am changing my diet." We've all been there! We go to the gym and begin to get intimidated by others. Or, we start our diet and one of our friends decide they want to go out and celebrate their birthday, or engagement, or any accomplishments they may have. Then the pressure comes and have to decide if we are going to have a "cheat day" or delay the diet until the next day, then they next day, and then the next day.

Taking accountability for our setbacks will be our biggest downfall of getting fit. One way of taking accountability will be, when you decide to have a "cheat day," the next "cheat day will not be until the next few weeks or months. Reset your goals, and give yourself credit for staying on track.

Now, let's breakdown those 10 ways to stay motivated:

1. Overall Weight Loss/Gain Goals

Set your goal weight. This will be your main focus point.

Have a target date that you would like to achieve this goal.

2. Set Daily and Weekly Goals

Have weekly weigh-ins. Choose a day out of the week to weigh yourself.

Write down and/or take pictures of each weight-in. Even if you do not lose or gain anything, document it. This is your journey and this is part of your journey.

Track your daily and weekly calorie intake. Download a calorie counter app. Keep track of what you consume each day and each week.

Increase your water intake! Your water intake should be half of your body weight. If you are not a water drinker, then start off small and increase over time. Your water intake will be your main factor in losing or gaining weight.

3. Exercise

How many times a week do you want to exercise?

What is your main problem area?

Do full body workouts but ensure that you have more sets and repetitions for your problem areas

4. Diet

Bad foods out! Good Foods in!

Cut out all fried foods.

Water! Water! Water! and Water!

Watch your carb intake.

There are good carbs and there are bad carbs.

Ensure you are consuming more good carbs than bad.

Your plate should be colorful.

Meal prep can be your friend!

Rapid diets are a NO!

The more you exercise, the more your body will cut out bad foods.

5. Accountability

As stated before, take account for your setbacks.

If you eat bad one day or miss your exercise day, take account and continue to move forward.

Do not beat yourself down for one setback.

6. Mental Health

Your mental health can be your determining factor in your journey.

Talking to a therapist is okay.

Your brain is an organ and it has to be healthy as well.

Cut out negativity. That includes negative people. You will be amazed at how many people in your life may be negative. When you feel that a person is being negative, take a step back from them for a while. You should begin to see how much negativity they were putting on you.

Surround yourself with positivity.

Give yourself daily Affirmations!

Set daily goals. If you do not achieve it that day, just do it the next day.

Everything will be okay.

Meditate for 3 to 5 minutes daily.

Use this time to clear your mind, reset, focus on your breathing, and prayer time.

Breathe in through your nose and hold for 3 seconds and breathe out slowly.

7. Support Group

Find someone that will support your fitness journey.

8. Never Give Up

This speaks for itself.

If you fall down, get back up and press forward.

9. Small Victories

Any accomplishment is a victory.

Small or large accomplishments should be celebrated!

10. Have fun!

Enjoy working out and getting healthy.

It should not be a chore.
